Last day in Manitou Springs August 22nd 2010

Young woman standing next to the bell at the Manitou Police station next to the Pikes Peak Inn.

Stage Coach at the Stage Coach Inn and Restaurant.
Remember when every city and town had a building like this?

The restaurant that Naila and I had dinner at, the night before.

Another view of that restaurant. Haven't tried the hand made ice cream yet.
Really cool shot of HOJ and a cool book store next door.

What was nice, the streets were clear of all traffic, because of the race, so I could walk down the main streets without fear of being run over.

A cool business on the main drag.

Sepia version of same building.

A favorite book store. Sepia filter.

Downtown Manitou, and Pikes Peak in the background. Sepia filter.

A church off of main drag, downtown Manitou.
Same church in living color.

The original engine for the Cog Railroad which runs to the top of Pike's Peak, on display on Manitou Blvd.

The unique cog wheel, still used today on the modern version of this train.

This is a piece of art, that is completely interactive, and yes that is me standing on the desk and chair.
Does that tell you how big this desk and chair is? Getting up was easy, getting down was hard.

This man, posed, because he saw me posing and had to join in.

Yes, there was enough room for he and his wife to sit side by side on the chair.
My wife, Naila Moon of the Gray Wolf, as she is also known, standing next to the chair. She would have climbed up and sat in it, but was concerned that she never would have gotten out of the chair, had she done so.

That was close. Actually, it is rare to see police cruisers on patrol in Manitou, it is so quiet that most of the time they are parked at the station.  As seen here in this photo from July 25th of this year.

One last look at where we began, the main entry to Manitou Springs.

Follow me Friday

Sunday morning came, and I woke up at 6:30 that morning.  I quickly and quietly got dressed, and headed out to Manitou Blvd.  Why?  Today, was the second day of the annual Manitou Pikes Peak Marathon race, and I wanted to get pictures of the pre race and beginning.  So here they are with commentary, only as needed.
The mountain, Pikes Peak.  How many will struggle, how many will win?

Manitou Blvd, being closed off for the big run.  All is quiet, except for the guy, with the bull horn.

Runners warming up.

Some spectators watching and waiting,

Doing stretches.

Race Staff and spectators waiting for the beginning of the race.

Manitou Police checking the course.

Racers ready, set...

Go!

Age is a matter of mind, if you don't mind it doesn't matter.  Some silver in with the Brown,

And there they go!

I have no idea where the fire truck was going, or why?

The last runners, perseverance.  Maybe they won?

In all honesty, this is one event I hope to participate in, with-in the next few years.  Just to get to the top of Pike's Peak would be an accomplishment, and for me, being 52 then, and a heart attack survivor, it would be a victory greater than any award.

Clouds, Ute Pass... and a few surprises.

A wagon along Ute Pass.

Actually it is a tourist stop, along the way.

It it a cabin or motel?

Warning sign.

The North Pole and Santa's Work Shop are on Ute Pass, in Manitou Springs, Colorado?  Who knew?  Well Santa of course.  lol.
